QBL Transactions: Shaun Gleeson signs with Rockhampton
Former NBL guard Shaun Gleeson is set to join the Rockhampton Rockets in 2016. The former Gold Coast Roller is heading to Rockhampton not only as a player but as a development officer that will assist with junior development. Gleeson has played for Gladstone, Northside, Ipswich and Gold Coast. In his most recent season Gleeson average 19.6 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game for the Rollers. BE Take: Rockhampton struggled last year and essential needed a roster restructure. Brad Williamson retired, Glenn Scott is playing for the Brisbane Spartans, and it’s uncertain whether Peni Nasalo returns to Rockhampton. They have added some height in Auryn McMillan; while Shaun Gleeson is a replacement of sorts for Brad Williamson. Gleeson has had individual success before in the QBL being in the All QBL Team 3 times, and gives Rockhampton quality unrestricted player that does make a difference in the QBL. Guard wise, the Rockets should be tough with Gleeson, import Jordan Gregory and local star Mitch Philp along with backup Chris Kann. My question in regard to Gleeson is how he react from being the top scorer in Gold Coast to potentially being the 3rd or 4th option for Rockhampton and how does his demeanour impact on the Rockhampton team. Having said that, Tweedy does run Rockhampton and is one of the best if not the best coach in this league, his won championships so I have faith in Tweedy’s decision. Expect Rockhampton to rebound into a championship contender.
