Interview with Cairns Dolphins player Rachel Pryor
How is the season going so far?
We've had a really positive start to the season going 1-1 on the Townsville/Mackay road trip! Those two teams will be two of the tougher teams in the Comp this year and playing the way we did is a real confidence boost for us.
How sort of improvements have you made to your game during the offseason?
Coming into the season I worked a lot on my conditioning. I wanted to be as fit as possible once the season started. I've also worked on my individual game with Wortho.
You have a Serbian international in Kristina Baltic and second import coming up, how does that improve the team and how does impact your game?
Kristina has been a great addition to the team, she gives us another strong inside presence who rebounds and shoots the ball well. We've only played one round so far but I'm really excited to see how we feed off each other.
What are your impressions so far of having two experienced basketball players (Mark Worthington and Jenny Evans) as your coaches?
Mark and Jenny have been amazing. They bring a wealth of knowledge to the team and learning from the both of them has been great for all of us. They instil so much confidence and belief in the team that it makes it so enjoyable to play for them.
Coming off a bye week and playing vs Brisbane this week, what do you need as a team to get the win?
The team is really excited to get back on the court after the bye. To get this win we need to execute our offence, value the ball and apply our defensive principles.
Cairns is playing in the tough north pool, what are you chance of progressing into the playoffs?
The north are always strong and this year is no exception. We gained a lot of confidence after round one, but we know there are a lot of strong teams in this comp. I think if we keep following our coaches lead and taking steps in the right direction there's no reason why we can't make playoffs.
