The Good, The Bad and The Scheibs ep.10

Week ten it was and most of the action took place out of the SE corner this week. What we know is Townsville are still unbeaten. Ippy still haven’t beat anyone with a winning record. SWM are great in the SE corner, road warriors they are not. TBar and Daniel Sims are done for 2016. Now for the biggest shocker, BQ have an updated fully functional ladder for two weeks in a row!!
SWM embarked on a season defining road trip, this was a chance to prove that they belonged with the elite of this year’s competition. What they showed us all is they are still good in the South and not yet in the elite. First up was a Mackay side that was struggling to just stay in contention for the third and final playoff spot in the North pool. Yet this game was basically decided in the first half and when the Meteors led by Chris Cedar produced a 35 point second quarter this one was over early. The Pirates only suited up 8 for this game, and were missing their non-productive import, but with their big three of Bairstow, Teys and league MVP candidate McGrew they had enough to give this a shake.
The next night in Rockhampton it was a similar story, Rocky still missing Gleeson for the third game in a row put up 61 in the first half. Rockets American Jordan Gregory continued on his purple patch and had another 30 point game and fellow import Turner had 27 and 16. The Pirates only suited up 7 for this one, and they must have shot from deep with a patch over their collective eyes, 10% for the game from the three point line is a new level of ineptness. So the Pirate ship returned south taking on water and listing badly. Sure they will easily win the joke of a pool they find themselves in, but they will not win their second ever QBL title in 2016.
The P Clips took on the Far North road trip and stumbled to their fifth straight loss. Cairns who are the comps equivalent to DR Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, once again suited up their strongest line-up and this time it was good enough to get the win. Marlins skipper Mitchell had a very efficient double double. Old mate Cam Tragardh put aside the cities NBL clubs recent shocking and ruthless decision to cut him, behind him and produced a nice game. This old warhorse still has a few more seasons of NBL in him and I have no doubt he will be picked up by one of the other 7 NBL clubs! Trigger deserved better, and has showed plenty of class, far more than the Taipans have in this sorry scenario.
The next night the PClips ran into a Heat side who had still to taste the agony of defeat. This would prove to be a sixth straight loss for the Buderim crew. Jorden Page once again led the PClips in scoring but has struggled to lead this side and has shot the ball poorly in the six game losing streak. He certainly is not the lone ranger, and it is no coincidence that the clubs losing streak coincides with the loss of their second import. A spoiler role is what this team is reduced to for the remainder of the season. Tville on the other hand are eyeing off hosting finals for the first time in a long time. Speaking of old warhorses, come on down Peter Crawford. Are you kidding me? When was the last time a QBL player over thirty has matched his age in points? 41 points at a very efficient rate with 8 threes and toss in 16 boards and 4 dimes and even BQ has to give him the POW. I know you’re not 41 PC, just taking the piss mate!! (Editor's Note: If he was 41 he would be playing for the Rollers!) This week’s game see the un-beaten Townsville side doing their ridiculous three game road trip to the south. Saturday night’s game against the Pirates will be a nice one to see, and I would expect SWM to enjoy playing at home and this should be a god one. The fact that the Heat Logan matchup is on a Sunday and the Townsville side’s third game in 40 hours it should be a win for the Thunder, but this is a very good Heat side and they are not unbeaten after 10 rounds for nothing.
Cairns do the Central Queensland road trip with a stop off in Happy Rock first, then the all-important game against Rockhampton. Cairns are in a dog fight with Mackay for the final playoff spot in the North. A Rocky win will pretty much stitch up second and knock the Marlins out of the playoff run for 2016.
